An ND filter reduces the amount of light that enters the sensor, giving you the freedom to create your own work by allowing more control over camera aperture, exposure time, and sensor sensitivity settings.
 
ND filter helps avoid overexposed photos.
 
An ND4 filter allows 1/4 of the light in, the same as a 2-stop filter.
An ND8 filter lets in 1/8 of the light, the same as a 3-stop filter.
An ND16 filter lets in 1/16 of the light, the same as a 4-stop filter.
